The Oskar Halecki Institute in Canada (OHI) with the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University (USKW), Warsaw, Poland, and the Kościuszko Chair for Polish Studies, IWP
Is organizing the 5th Oskar Halecki Symposium in Ottawa on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of the Institute’s existence titled:
Evolution of the Central Eastern Europe – New Challenges
25 – 26 October 2024, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Amphitheatre G1124, Saint Paul University, 223 Main Street, Ottawa, ON K1S 1C4
with Distinguished Speakers from Poland, Canada, and the USA, among them Canadian Friends of Central European origin.
Speakers will include Brig.-Gen. (Ret’d) Robert Williams, Ph.D., Adjunct Professor, Royal Military College (RMC), Kingston, ON, Canada
Prof. Marek Jan Chodakiewicz, Ph.D., Kościuszko Chair of Polish Studies, Institute of World Politics (IWP), Washington, D.C., USA
Prof. Marek Kornat, Ph.D., D.Sc., Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University, and IH PAN, Warsaw, Poland and others.
The Oskar Halecki Commemorative Medal will be presented at this Symposium. This medal commemorates the 50th Anniversaryof the death of our Patron, a world-class Polish and American historian, and Christian activist, Swordman of Freedom for Poland,and also the 10th Anniversary of the foundation of OHI. The Polish Mint issues this Medal in the limited series.
Books published by Members of the Institute will be available in limited numbers (at reduced prices).
The exhibition of posters developed for different events of OHI (2014 – 2024) will be on display.
For Members from the Ottawa Region and Guests:
The Holy Mass for Members of OHI will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 5 PM, at Saint Hyacinth Church in Ottawa.
The special meeting (in Polish) for members of Ottawa Polonia is also planned in the evening, on Saturday, October 26, 2024 (after Holy Mass at 5 PM)in the Saint Hyacinth Parish Hall (details TBC).

Members of Polonia in Ottawa can purchase tickets after Holy Masses in the Polish Church of Saint Hyacinth every Sunday starting from September 14, 2024.Tickets will include a cost of reception on Friday evening, lunch, and coffee on Saturday (

Plans are underway to organize a special series of online lectures by Members of the Oskar Halecki Institute Program Council.
They will include lectures by Professor Jan Żaryn, Professor Kazimierz Braun, and Professor Andrzej Nowak – TBC.
