Dear Members and Friends of the Oskar Halecki Institute in Canada,
On April 10, 2010, the Polish Presidential Plane Tupolev TU-154M (Polish Air Force Flight 101) was destroyed in Smolensk, Russian Federation, killing all 96 people on board. Among the victims were the President of Poland, Prof. Lech Kaczyński, and his wife, Maria, the last Polish President in Exile in London, England, Ryszard Kaczorowski, several high-ranked Polish Generals of the Polish Armed Forces General Command, and other important Polish officials including 18 Members of the Polish Parliament, representatives of the high Polish clergy of all denominations, and relatives of victims of the Katyń Massacre. The official Polish delegation was to attend a commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Katyń Forest Massacre at the Polish Military Cemetery in Katyń, near Smoleńsk.
